El presidente de la Conferencia Episcopal Española (CEE), monseñor Luis Argüello, ha visitado la Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba junto con un grupo de trabajadores de la CEE dentro de la visita con la que cada año se cierra el curso pastoral y se ha declarado “encantado de poder celebrar misa en la parroquia del Sagrario junto con el obispo de Córdoba, monseñor Jesús Fernández”. El presidente de la CEE, que estuvo acompañado en su visita por el deán presidente del Cabildo Catedral, D. Joaquín Alberto Nieva, ha querido destacar que “contemplar la Catedral de Córdoba me ha servido para confirmar que la vía de la belleza es muy indicada para acercar el evangelio a todos los que acuden aquí” por diversos motivos, ya sean espirituales o turísticos, y se ha felicitado porque “puedan verse sorprendidos por una belleza que puede acercarlos a Dios”.
En este sentido, se ha manifestado también el secretario general de la CEE, César García Magán, para quien visitar la Mezquita Catedral es “acudir a las raíces de nuestra fe y nuestra historia”. El también portavoz de la CEE ha resaltado que el monumento es “un lujo de la historia del arte, cuya singularidad nos habla de que la fe religiosa es creadora de belleza”. Finalmente, García Magán ha querido destacar los vínculos que le unen con Córdoba en su cargo como obispo auxiliar de Toledo “ya que compartimos la mozarabía, que tiene un significado especial y nos da prueba del testimonio de la fe en unos tiempos difíciles”.

La visita realizada por la CEE a la Mezquita-Catedral se enmarca en un viaje que cada año realizan los trabajadores de la Conferencia Episcopal como colofón al año pastoral y que este año ha tenido como destino la ciudad de Córdoba, en la que también han disfrutado de una visita a los patios y de un tour turístico por la capital.

The President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), Monsignor Luis Argüello, visited the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba with a group of CEE employees as part of the annual trip that marks the end of the pastoral year. He expressed how delighted he was to celebrate Mass in the Parish of El Sagrario alongside the Bishop of Córdoba, Monsignor Jesús Fernández. During his visit, he was accompanied by the Dean President of the Cathedral Chapter, Mr. Joaquín Alberto Nieva. Monsignor Argüello emphasized that “contemplating the Cathedral of Córdoba has confirmed for me that the path of beauty is a powerful way to bring the Gospel to all who come here,” whether for spiritual or touristic reasons. He added that he was pleased that “they may be surprised by a beauty that can bring them closer to God.”

In a similar vein, the Secretary General of the CEE, César García Magán, stated that visiting the Mosque-Cathedral is “a return to the roots of our faith and our history.” The CEE spokesperson also emphasized that the monument is “a marvel of art history, whose uniqueness shows us that religious faith is a creator of beauty.” Finally, García Magán highlighted his personal ties to Córdoba in his role as Auxiliary Bishop of Toledo, “since we share the Mozarabic tradition, which carries a special meaning and testifies to the endurance of faith in difficult times.”

The visit to the Mosque-Cathedral by the CEE took place within the framework of a trip made annually by the employees of the Episcopal Conference as a conclusion to the pastoral year. This year, the destination was the city of Córdoba, where participants also enjoyed a tour of the city’s famous patios and a sightseeing tour of the capital.
