Liturgical and pastoral life give true meaning to the Cathedral, turning it into the master church for all those located in our diocese. In addition to the conventual mass, which is held daily, there is the Sunday Eucharist, feasts on holy days and other celebrations of particular solemnity

  • Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God1 January

The divine motherhood of Mary is celebrated. This is the oldest liturgical feast among those dedicated to the Virgin in the Western Church. This commemoration is defined in the Council of Ephesus.

  • Chrism Mass and Blessing of the Holy OilsHoly Tuesday

This celebration involves the consecration of the Holy Chrism and the blessing of the holy oils of the catechumens and of the sick, which will be administered in all the churches in the diocese of Cordoba.

  • Mass of the Lord's SupperMaundy Thursday

This begins the Easter Triduum, evoking the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples as a moment in which the sacrament of the Eucharist is established.

  • Celebration of the Passion of the LordGood Friday

This Eucharist remembers the redeeming sacrifice of Jesus and involves the Adoration of the Cross and Holy Communion, which until now had remained in reserve.

  • Solemnity of the Easter ResurrectionEaster Sunday

This opens a new time of joy. It is the solemnity that marks the centre of the life of all Christians. The people of God come together to give thanks for the Paschal Mysteries.

  • Solemnity of the Dedication of the Holy Cathedral Church18 May

This celebrates the consecration of the church for Catholic worship, as the spiritual core and hallmark of the Church in Cordoba.

  • Solemnity of the Sacred Corpus Christi

The institution of the Eucharist is remembered, proclaiming the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, which is then paraded through the streets of the city.

  • Solemnity of Our Lady of Fuensanta8 September

On the day of the Nativity of Mary, the feast of the Virgin of Fuensanta Crowned, patron of the city and the brotherhoods, is celebrated. The solemn Eucharist takes place in her Sanctuary, presided over by the Bishop and concelebrated by the Cathedral Chapter.

  • Solemnity of Archangel Saint Raphael24 October

The Church of the Oath of Saint Raphael welcomes the Eucharistic celebration in honour of the protector of the city. It is also presided over by the Bishop, accompanied by members of the chapter.

  • Solemn ceremony in honour of the Holy Martyrs

The Dean of Cordoba Cathedral, together with the Chapter, celebrates this Eucharist in the Basílica menor de San Pedro. This fulfils the vow to pay tribute to these Sacred Relics and commemorates their discovery.

  • Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception8 December

This celebrates the dogma of the Faith proclaimed by Pope Pius IX on 8 December 1854. According to the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus, the Virgin Mary was free from sin from the moment of her conception.

  • Solemnity of the Lord's Nativity25 December

The Cathedral and the brotherhoods

The work of the cordoban brotherhoods can be seen in the most diverse areas of the city. Cordoba Cathedral is an essential space in the daily life of the brotherhoods. As well as the procession from the city' s main church there are also other liturgical activities such as processions and extraordinary worship, which demonstrate the ecclesiastic communion of the brotherhoods with their diocese. The procession of Our Lady of Fuensanta Coronada and the many celebrations of the Via Crucis Magno and the Magna Mariana "Regina Mater" procession are a good examples of this
